JUSTICE FOR VIOLET – RETRIBUTION, 1

BLURB:

There’s a war being fought on the streets of Chicago between an organized crime syndicate and a feline shifter pride resolute to stop them. Mason and Jacob Williams are Leopard shifters in the Black Ridge pride, fighting to protect the city they call home and avenge the loss of two of their own.

The shifters are sent to look for a woman their Alpha believes can help them. Thinking she’s in danger, they rush in to rescue her only to discover that Violet Riccitelli is not a woman in need of any assistance. While she’s kicking the ass of three potential attackers, they recognize her as their mate, the one they must protect above all else.

Violet is known to the people of Chicago as someone they can rely on to help when things get bad. But Violet sees herself as a woman out for justice against the man who took everything from her twelve years ago.

Can Mason and Jacob convince their mate that a future with them is worth risking everything, or will Violet’s need to see justice served end their chance before it’s begun?

The story…

TEASER:

“Come on, Mason,” Jacob wheedled. “We are heading in the right damn direction. I just want you to scent the air, and tell me if you can catch the scent that is driving my leopard crazy.”

Mason pushed away the anger that came with his train of thought and growled at his brother as they rounded the corner, and they were only a few feet from the entrance to the alleyway they had been directed to. “Jacob, I promise, as soon as we save this woman, I’ll inhale so deep my goddamn nose will bleed, but right now I need you on the same fucking page so that we can find this woman. The informant said she was calling out for help. We need to get to her and take care of the three assholes that are stalking her!”

The two of them stepped quickly into the alley and slammed to a stop. The scene that met them was so unexpected he blinked slowly a couple of times to check that what he was seeing was in fact real. A tall curvy female with long curly red hair was putting a beating on two men, who were both swearing and cursing at her, while she swung two lethal looking fighting batons with unerring accuracy.

The two men were wielding knives and threatening the woman with each step. If anything she seemed to be amused by their threats, and if Mason wasn’t mistaken, she was enjoying the hell out of the fight. Mason stepped forward when he saw the two bastards strike out at the same time, and one of them managed to connect with her upper arm. The woman frowned, and looked down at the leather that Mason could see was now wet with her blood.

“You son of a bitch,” the woman muttered. “I fucking hate sewing. So now, despite all the fun I am having, I’m going to have to end our little dance so I can go take care of it. Which is a shame because I was just starting to think we might have something building between us.” The woman then started moving with lethal intent, and Mason admired the skill and speed with which she moved. She—

“Mate,” Jacob suddenly growled, his eyes glowing amber as his leopard drew closer to the surface.

Mason frowned as he tilted his head into the air, inhaled then almost dropped to the ground. Beneath the usual stench of an inner city alley that some obviously mistook as a public restroom, the alluring scent of cinnamon and honey hit him right in the chest. His entire body hummed with recognition of the woman the fates had deemed theirs, and he had to hold himself in check to avoid losing his shit and allowing his leopard to leap out into the open.

Once he had his equilibrium back and the shock and wonder of finding what few of their kind ever did eased, he saw their mate land a killing blow to the temple of the last man standing. His leopard growled in pleasure as they watched him drop to the ground like a proverbial rock. He didn’t get back up.

The woman moved with fluid grace to face them, her body crouched in a fighting stance that told him their mate was well trained, batons at the ready, one above her head and one pointing in their direction. She looked up at him and Jacob, and Mason’s blood heated. She was stunning. She had a figure that a man could get lost in for hours and still not get enough of. Her lips were full, and her unusual almond shaped eyes were such a dark blue in color they were almost purple. If this was the woman Kieran sent them to find, then Mason was pretty sure he wouldn’t be letting her go any time soon.

“Are you two friends with these assholes?” She pointed at the men at her feet. “If so, give me one minute and I’ll be sure to reunite you with them.”

Jacob stepped forward, holding his hands out in a non-threatening manner. “No, ma’am, we would never be friends with the likes of those two.”

The woman indicated to the side with a quick flick of her head. “Three. I tossed one of them in that dumpster for calling me the ‘c’ word. I can live with many insults, but that one really gets my blood boiling.” She relaxed out of the fighting stance she had been standing in, twirled the batons in the palms of her hands in an impressive show of expertise before she slid them into some kind of holster behind her. “Well, there is nothing left to see here. If you two aren’t with these corpses, then my job here is done.” She lifted her left foot and wiped her boot on the last man she’d dropped, then repeated the move with her other foot.

“Nice boots,” Mason said with a grin, completely taken with the kickass woman in front of him. The fact that their mate grinned back and flicked him an air kiss in response told him that the Fates had definitely chosen well. Any woman destined to be mated to two feline shifters had to be strong, but one that was mated to protectors for their people, she needed to be able to kick ass and hold her own.

Five questions for the author

Q: Where did the idea for the Retribution trilogy come for?

A:  I have said this before but you find inspiration everywhere and a story idea can strike at any time. The idea for Retribution came when I was driving home from work one day and as I sat waiting for the lights to change, I got the idea for a kickass female character, and this is where Violet came from.  The rest of the story followed so that I had the three books plotted by the time I got home!

Q:  Is Violet based on anyone in particular?

A:  No, what happened was that I had a meeting that day with a contractor at my work and it had not gone well.  I remember distinctly, imagining opening a large can of whoop-ass on the woman and in that day dream, I had a pair of fighting batons and used them like a ninja!  So, when Violet came to me on my drive home, those batons had to be her fighting weapon of choice

Q: Why do you always include a danger element to your books?

A: I write what I love to read. I love books that take you on a journey, but where the characters face a challenge that adds an element of urgency to them and to the book.  As a reader, there is nothing I like more than getting that goose bump, hair rising on the back of my neck feeling as I join the characters within the book I am reading on the journey to solve their mystery.  I want to give that to my readers.

Q: Do you have anything to say to your current readers or to those that haven’t yet read you work?

A: If you have read any of my books, thank you so very much! It blows my mind that someone has actually read something that I wrote, but gosh I hope you enjoyed it!  Did you?  Please let me know, I find I suffer from a slight case of needy-nelly with my writing.  If you haven’t read my book, but you love erotic romance stories between strong men and an independent woman, where the path to their happily ever after can be a bumpy one, but there is always a happily ever after, and their love and laugher is real on every page, then you’ll find my books right up your alley!

UNDONE BY DESTINY by Allyson Young @evernightpub

Blurb:
Desiree lost her heart to Tahl before he moved away, pursuing a redheaded shifter.
Devastated, she somehow managed to hope he got what he needed. Except, being part Fae, she now believes she’s cursed him. Tahl has returned, unmated, refusing to share what transpired.

When Tahl pursues her, realizing what she has always meant to him, Desi desperately
avoids, her guilt—and refusal to be second choice—a deterrent to her heart. Her twenty-fifth birthday approaches, and hot from the chase, Tahl corners her. He triggers her heat and she must allow him to assuage it, however outraged and resentful she might be.

The redhead follows Tahl, refusing to accept his mating—he can’t be bonded should his mate die… The males fail to thwart the nefarious plan, and the true nature of both females is revealed. Only one bitch can win and keep Tahl’s heart, and Desi won’t lose.

Excerpt:
Now that he was here, he was stalling, and he grimaced. Nothing much scared him, but the female presumably inside the cabin… He forced his feet to carry up the short set of stairs and opened the front door with a confidence he didn’t feel. Until he saw her.
Huddled on the couch, facing him, was his future mate, the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen—or scented. Cheeks flushed, hair now streaming in wild abandon and clothing awry, she glared at him, her rage muted by the trembling need radiating from her tense body.
“Baby. I got here as soon as I could. I—” His attempt at an apology was overridden as Desi lurched to her feet.
“It’s not fucking fair that I have no recourse in this, Tahl. It’s a done deal because you decided. You. And now I’m stuck with you. I have to submit to your … physical attentions so I can function.” She laughed, a harsh mimicry of her usual, musical burst of sound.
The one he hadn’t heard in his vicinity for a very long time but had never forgotten. The dichotomy scalded his senses.
She stood, her body shaking, the hormonal flux pouring off of her, and he balled his fists to keep his hands to himself. A vastly angry Desiree was an incredibly beautiful and appealing female and his wolf seethed with impatience against her siren call. Tahl shoved his animal back and cudgeled his brain for something that would soothe her. Some sense of self-preservation kept him from offering his heart. It was quite likely she’d carve it out of his chest and eat it with a spoon.
His breath stuttered as with awkward, jerky movements, she yanked at the front of her silky shirt, the fine fabric rending beneath her impatient hands. She threw the remnants in the general direction of the couch before working at the zipper on her little skirt. The garment slid over her thighs to pool around her ankles, his avid stare tracking it as the black lace of her matching panties was revealed as well as the long length of her legs. She stepped out, nearly losing her balance, and kicked the material away. This was so not how he imagined it. Throat dry, he closed the distance.
“Desiree. Easy, baby. Let me—”
“You’ve done enough, Tahl,” she coughed out between shuddering
breaths. “Now do what nature intended.”
Her pretty bra popped open and her breasts were displayed. Sitting high on her narrow torso, they were in perfect proportion to the rest of her, though visibly swollen with need, the dark nipples beaded tightly.
Everything in him screamed to take her right fucking now, his cock so hard it hurt, his wolf groveling. Groveling. With inner strength he somehow drew from somewhere, perhaps his conscience, maybe his aching heart, he wrestled his libido into submission and hugged her instead. Trying to offer her comfort. His eyes closed against the intense draw of her soft, silky skin, the heat of her radiating intensely to the very marrow
of his bones.
Desiree wrestled free, wild-eyed and flushed. Surely no other male would have been so fucking stupid as to trigger his future mate’s heat on the side of a goddamn highway and then leave her unfulfilled? He cursed himself again.
She scrabbled at the fine stuff of her underwear and it met the same fate as her shirt. Tahl drank in his first sight of the female who was his, all creamy skin and smooth curves, the soft dark hair at her apex neatly trimmed. But she was shaking harder, out of control, the scent of her arousal overwhelming him, and instinct took over.
With economic movements, he stripped off his own clothing. Desiree swayed, her eyes tightly shut as she panted through the tiny whimpers falling from her lips. He spoke her name even as he gathered her up and bore her down on the wide, soft couch, but she wouldn’t—or couldn’t—open her eyes.
There was no time, or need, or foreplay. He’d left her too long. Testing her preparedness with one finger, he grunted his satisfaction. Soaked. Her thighs opened wide for him as he maneuvered between them, her arms splayed and her head thrown back. She writhed, her wolf clearly right at the surface, and her whimpers escalated both in volume and quantity.
Recognizing the time for fucking couldn’t be put off by conversation, however necessary, he fit the weeping crown of his cock against her opening. Wet, sultry heat engulfed him as he surged inside on a desperate thrust. And froze at her muffled yelp.
“Fuck me, baby. Fuck. Me.” He wrapped her up, working his arms beneath her shoulders to tuck her as tightly against him as he could manage while holding his cock steady, giving her time to adjust. It was his turn to screw his own eyes shut in order to concentrate on not moving one fucking iota.
He’d just taken her virginity, and even his wolf paused in its desperation to claim her.

EXCERPT

Mercury was pacing around his office with a datapad in hand when Demaratus stopped by. Waving the other man inside, he kicked the door shut before moving to pace again. “This is not good,” he said.

Demaratus eased himself into a chair with a tilt of his head. “At least Holly has figured it out, what Helen was doing, and is working to undo it even now.”

He could see the worry in Demaratus’s eyes. Mercury knew that the men he guided wondered about him, about his history, and his story more so than not. But he was an intensely private person, always had been, and always would be. While he’d shared a bit with those that had been with him the longest of his past, and of his time before the first he’d brought back from the grave, he definitely hadn’t shared it all. Barely a scratch on the surface of the sun in comparison.

It was hard at times holding it all in, but he’d been betrayed too many times over the years by those he’d considered brethren to ever let out more than was required to assist them in their jobs. For centuries Mercury had yearned for someone all his own like Holly was for Demaratus now. Someone he could open up to fully, speak freely with, and someone who could help shoulder the terrible burdens he carried on a daily basis.

While he never spoke of his desire to have someone like six of the guardians now did, it didn’t mean the craving went away. He dreamed of the possibility nearly every night. Only recently had she begun to take shape. Mercury should have known something in the universe had changed. But to go so many millennia without made one blind to such small changes. The news Holly had just dropped on him, though, brought everything into crystal clarity.

Thinking back on his dreams, he realized it was only in the last four years that the woman of his dreams had truly shown a shape. Before it had always been a vague sense of something, or rather someone, meant to be his. Twenty or so years ago the dreams had begun to solidify, but truly the past few years were the important ones. She was of age, and adult as it were, in the world out there. What made him nearly sick was the thought of her alone, unaware of the dangers, and unaware that help was coming.

“Stop pacing,” Demaratus said, bringing him back to the present.

The hand he’d been rubbing his brow with fell to his side, and he stopped moving.

“I really hate it when you go all still like that,” D muttered. “Will you sit down and focus for a moment. You have to send someone out for this woman. I’m guessing you’ve already figured out who it’s to be.”

“Of course I have.” Mercury had known the moment Holly had given a name to the potential vestal virgin. Just as he knew exactly who to send for every single one of the others. It was part and parcel of the bonus package the goddess had given to him. It didn’t always make a hell of a lot of sense, but he went with it every time. Not once in all his years had he ever been wrong, even in the very early days long before technology had been a consideration.

“Are you planning on keeping it a secret, or sharing with the rest of the class?”

Not many realized that Demaratus was actually a sarcastic, snarky little shit on the best of days. But Mercury had known it from the first time the man had opened his mouth upon awakening from his death. Like it was only yesterday he could recall the man’s words. “If this is Heaven, I damn well want a refund,” was the loose translation in modern lingo, but it had been pretty fitting to the situation.

Mercury leaned back in his chair and let out a breath. He was too wound up. He knew better than to let his emotions run rampant. The consequences were not ones he ever wanted to have to live with again.

A knock on the door had him giving Demaratus a look. “It’s open,” he called.

“Mercury, you rang?” Eric Thorvaldsson asked as he sauntered into the office. He shot a grin toward Demaratus as he settled down in the other guest chair. “D, didn’t realize you were going to be here.”

“Impromptu stop by to see what thoughts the big guy had on the latest information Holly managed to dig up.”

“Oh? And what information has your little mate dug up?” Eric asked curiously.

“Holly’s gotten Helen’s program up and running with a few tweaks to start looking for the VV’s again,” Mercury said. “She’s found a potential in New Orleans. I need you to head there tonight. Robert is in the area, so I’ll have him meet you at the hotel.” Digging out a file from his desk, he passed it over. “That’s all that Holly sent me on Krista Reins. Your ticket and the hotel information are in there as well.”

Taking the folder, Eric settled back in the chair to read through the information, tucking the airline ticket under his chin as he did so.

“She’s a consultant for the locals,” Mercury said. “You’ll need to tread carefully with her. She’s not like any of the others to date.”

“She likely knows how to actually shoot a gun,” D muttered.

Mercury threw him a glance. He knew the other man had been working to try to train Holly in at least a few methods of self-defense. Demaratus had occasionally bemoaned about the woman being such a girly-girl. No one could argue that Holly was definitely a woman. Mercury had a feeling she’d yet to find the one thing that worked with what she already knew. She’d find it in time, and the upside was watching Demaratus grind his teeth.

“More than likely,” he said to both men. “I’ll pass along whatever other information Holly comes up with as she gets it. I told her to focus on Ms. Reins for the moment, that she was our immediate priority. You have a couple hours before your flight to get your gear together. I’ll have the chopper readied to take you to the airport.”

Tucking the ticket back into the folder, Eric got to his feet. “Roger that, boss man. Later, D,” he said to Demaratus. “And thank Holly for the impressive amount of information on the woman.”

Demaratus gave him a mock salute and waited until the door shut behind the man before turning his eyes back on Mercury. “So, do you want to talk to me about what Holly revealed to you?”

He knew that Demaratus was only trying to help. But when it came to the subject of Mercury’s potential mate, that was a closed, sealed, and permanently buried item. “No,” he said quietly. He did want to talk about it. He wanted to rage. He wanted to scream, and he wanted to hurt someone. But he knew he couldn’t do any of that.

“All right.” Demaratus got to his feet with a nod. “You know where to find me if you change your mind.”

Giving a vague wave of his hand, Mercury stared at the closed door long after Demaratus had left his office. Pressing his fingers to his eyes, he let out a shuddering breath. So close, so very close.

The sound of an object vibrating on his desk had him snapping a hand out to still it. Shit, he needed to get down to the gym and beat the shit out of something inanimate, and quickly. He was starting to lose control of the emotions he’d kept under wraps for so long. If he did that… No, he couldn’t think that way. Not now, not ever. Pushing to his feet, he headed for the door. A few hours of mindless activity would calm the worst of them down. It had worked before, and it had to now.

Come to the party!

LOST IN MAGIC by Rose Wulf @RoseWulfAuthor @evernightpub

Hello! Thank you for having me today! I’m super excited to share with you my latest release, LOST IN MAGIC (Night Shadows 4)!

Blurb:

Nearly a year after losing her best friends to vampires, Allison Drake knows it’s time for a change. And a nice cruise to the Bahamas sounds like just the ticket. She meets a sexy man on day one and knows it’ll be the vacation of a lifetime. But she’s not prepared for passengers to start disappearing under mysterious circumstances, or the implications that follow.

Mick Darringer is on the cruise not for the destination, but for the distraction. He needs to lay low and he knows the Council would never think to look for an earth witch on a cruise. It wasn’t part of his plan to meet a beautiful woman, but he’s not about to walk away. Ali captivates him from the moment he lays eyes on her.

But it’s not long before they learn that this cruise has problems. Problems in the form of vampires.

Excerpt:

I should call Mick. He was bound to start worrying. And it wasn’t like she didn’t want to hear his voice. She was just worried the distance of a phone call would actually make her feel worse. You’re stalling. But calling herself out on her cowardice didn’t seem to be working this time.

Ali nearly jumped out of her skin when someone knocked loudly on her door.

She tightened her arms around herself and looked toward the locked door. Would it be Warner again?

“This isn’t over, Ali,” Warner had said with one hand on the door handle. Whether he’d actually said it as a threat or she’d simply heard it is as one she’d never know. But it’d been nearly half an hour since that conversation and he didn’t strike her as patient.

I wish these doors had peepholes. She didn’t understand why those things weren’t standard. But sitting alone on her bed wasn’t going to chase away whoever was at the door. Just answer it, tell them off, and then call Mick. He was surely waiting. It’d been a few minutes now since the announcement that the impromptu lockdown was over and they were all free to roam about the ship again. There was even the chance, she supposed, that the person at the door was Mick.

That was the thought that finally propelled her to her feet.

Still, her stomach clenched as she slid back the deadbolt. Just a peek. Mick was probably waiting by his phone. Why would he be worried about her?

It was a long moment before Allison realized she was staring into concerned green eyes. Gorgeous, familiar green eyes. She almost felt like crying. Almost.

“Mick?” As if that face could belong to anyone else.

“Ali,” he said on an exhale. There was an echo of fear in that voice. “I was worried.”

Her heart swelled and she opened the door properly, managing a smile. “Come inside,” she said. She didn’t want to be out and about in her hall at the moment.

Mick didn’t need to be asked twice. He stepped in, waited for her to shut the door, and then promptly pulled her by the hips up to his chest. He found her lips hungrily and she moaned as his tongue slipped into her mouth.

Ali curved her arms around his shoulders, letting one hand thread its way into his hair as their tongues danced. There was something in this kiss. Something more than attraction and opportunity. And whatever it was, she liked it. Wanted to lose herself in it.

Which was probably why he released her lips moments later.

“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice thick and his hands still heavy on her hips. Possessive. Comforting.

Stupid tears threatened her eyes for a moment but she fought them back and rested her head on Mick’s strong shoulder. Lie. Tell him yes.

“What’s wrong, baby?” This question was soft, washing right through her, punctuated by the arms he wrapped around her waist.

She hadn’t really wanted to lie to him, anyway.

About Rose:

Rose Wulf is a giant romance fangirl. Hot, protective, sometimes even downright barbaric heroes and spitfire heroines are her favorites. Rose has been writing for as long as she can remember, and over the years she’s only grown fonder of it. The bonds between characters have always captivated her, and as an author those are Rose’s favorite things to play with – not always to the relief of her fictional babies!
Behind the scenes Rose is a quiet personality. She enjoys spending her non-writing time with her German Shepherd, Shadow, her mom, and her friends. Be it a fun game of Cards Against Humanity or a relaxing movie night, Rose believes everything is better with company. As for her own romance, she’s still searching for her hero (and hoping that, when she does find him, he’ll be willing to cook!).

Night Falls (Racinitine Pack 1) by Nicole Morgan

A novella within Alpha, Beta, Omega

Paul Holton is the leader of the Racinitine Pack. Rising to his position from bloodline and destiny hadn’t been easy for the strong willed young man. Having sacrificed many of the things his kind long for in their reticent existence, Paul knew all he forfeited had been for the greater good.
Kinzey Sloane had been finding ways to get herself into trouble ever since she was a rambunctious young child. Now a reporter for the small press, The Grand Lake Gazette, she was determined to make a name for herself no matter what it costs.
When Paul crosses paths with the tenacious and gorgeous red head, Kinzey he knows he’s in trouble. Not only can he see the fire in her, but he can feel it as well. But when Kinzey gets too close to his secrets, he is faced with making a choice that could not only change his world, but the only life his pack has ever known.

Excerpt from Night Falls (Racinitine Pack 1) by Nicole Morgan

Paul Holton stared down at his opponent below. Sweat dripped from his forehead onto Zeke’s, sliding down the side and falling into the crease of the scar he’d caused when he and Zeke were just boys.
“Surrender,” Paul ordered.
“Not a chance, brother.”
With a swift and abrupt movement, Zeke elbowed his big brother in the ribs and grinned when Paul released his hold in agony.
Getting on top of him, Zeke pinned him down and said, “You may be older, but you’ll never be faster.”
Paul’s eyes glinted with the glow of Amber, the color that only showed when his other side was trying to shift through.
With a burst of adrenaline and strength that he knew his little brother wouldn’t be able to overcome, Paul pushed Zeke off of him and several feet away.
He then got up from the dirt covered barn and stood over Zeke. “Faster yes, but never stronger, my brother.”
Paul held his hand out to help Zeke up, but the gesture was refused. Just like the sore loser he’d always been, Zeke pushed his hand away and stood up in what could only be described as a childlike huff.
“You cheated.”
Laughing, he asked, “How exactly did I cheat? And when did this become a competition?”
“You used your powers. I saw your eyes. And it’s always a competition.”
“Only because you say so, brother. But not everything has to be. And don’t think I didn’t notice your hair prickle and begin to lengthen when you were on top of me. If you’re going to pull the powers card, you might want to take a look at your own tactics first.”
Zeke glared at his brother. “Whatever.”
Shaking his head, he could do nothing more than chuckle. His little brother might be fast and one of the best fighters’s the Racinitine Pack had ever seen, but he still had the temperament of a fifteen-year-old boy who didn’t get his way.
“Are you two at it again?”
Both men turned to see Nova, their sister, and the middle child of the trio standing in the moonlit silhouette of the barn doors.
“Just a friendly workout, sis.”
“Friendly, my ass.” Zeke snapped.
“I guess I know who lost.” Nova teased.
“Shut up, Nova. You always side with him.”
“Maybe that’s because you’re always acting like a petulant child.” She replied.
“Alright you two, knock it off.” Paul walked toward his sister and kissed her on the cheek. “Why do you antagonize him?”
She shrugged. “Because it’s fun and because I can.”
“Well knock it off. You know what a sore loser he can be.”
“I heard that,” Zeke muttered while brushing the dust off of his pants.
Rolling her eyes, Nova turned her attention toward Paul. “Everyone has gathered for the meeting. They’re out in the clearing.”
“Thanks, sis. Let’s head out there now.” He turned toward his little brother. “All of us.”
With a sarcastic smile, Zeke added, “Yes, let’s all show up like one big happy family.”
“I’m serious Zeke. We need to show a unified front. Our pack is depending on us to be the example here. Until we know what is going on none of us can show any signs of doubt or hesitation. Understood?”
His siblings nodded in agreement. Despite their disagreements, they all knew how dire their current situation was.
A few minutes later Paul and his siblings made it down to the clearing where their pack’s meeting place had been established generations earlier. Buried deep in the forest of Rocky Mountain National Park, no one but animals had ever crossed this desolate part of their land.
He took his place atop a large stone where many leaders before him had stood and turned to address the members of their pack.
“Good evening, everyone. Thank you for coming on such short notice. I realize that it’s not easy to sneak away from our normal existence but times are ominous and we need to discuss what has been happening.”
“Is it true that it might be one of us?” A male voice from the crowd called out causing a stir amongst the others.
“Now let’s not jump to any conclusions. There’s no reason to start a panic over this.”
“Start a panic? People are dying!”
Paul looked down at Ingrid, one of the older of their female pack members. She’d been a caregiver for him and his brother and sister when they were younger. It pained him to see her look so confused and scared as she looked up at him.
“Ingrid, I realize that. And I know you’re scared. As I’m sure many of you are. But I want everyone to know that we don’t know anything as of yet. The very little information we have is just that. Very little, far too little for us to draw any conclusion from. And I certainly do not think it was one of us.”
“So what are you saying, it was a real wolf? A bear?” She asked him.
“We simply don’t know. But I do know our kind. And none of us would ever hurt a human. Much less two innocent hikers. We’ve spent generations reigning in our powers so that very thing doesn’t happen.”
“I read the news reports. Those attacks didn’t come from any bear. If it wasn’t one of us it had to be a wolf.” Royce, another member of the pack shouted out from far back in the crowd.
Paul let out a sigh and placed his hands on his hips. He knew his pack wanted answers. And oh how he wished he could give them to him. But the fact of the matter was he had no idea who had killed those hikers two nights before. And as much as he hated to admit it, he wasn’t entirely sure it wasn’t one of them. Wolves had been rather dormant in their area for quite some time. The odds that it was an animal and not one of their pack were slim.
His duty was to his pack. He had to keep a level head. At the very least until he knew what was going on. It was his only option.
The knowledge that there may be a killer amongst them was a fear he didn’t care to voice.

Excerpt:

When she stepped out of the bathroom, Donovan and Jason were waiting for her in the bedroom. Donovan sat at the edge of the king-sized bed while Jason looked at her from the armchair next to it. She didn’t miss the fact that they both ogled her bare legs as she stepped closer to them. She felt her entire body heat up from the intensity of their stares.

“I like the way my shirt looks on you, angel.” Donovan’s voice was low and husky. He got up suddenly from the bed to stand in front of her. “Talk to us, April. Please.”

“How could the two of you still possibly want me?” April’s words came out rushed and strangled. She closed her eyes, swallowing the rest of the speech she had prepared for them as if her vocal cords stubbornly refused to say goodbye to them.

“Cut that shit out, April,” Jason bellowed before he, too, stood before her. She flinched at the harshness of his tone. “I’m the one who failed you. Not the other way around.”

“How can you say that? It was me Kheelan was after all this time. Not you. He took Dee and God knows how many others, all to get to me. Oh God, Dee! Have they found her yet?”

“No,” Donovan said quietly. “But we will. I swear it.”

“He’ll just keep coming for me.” She reached out and placed her hand on Jason’s cheek. “I felt so helpless when you were in that cell. I can’t bear the thought of him hurting you like that again.” She turned to Donovan and put her other hand on his cheek. “And it’s not only Jason’s screams I dreamt about. Sometimes it was you I pictured Kheelan torturing. I’d rather die than to ever let him get his hands on either of you. Not when I can prevent it.” She took a deep steady breath. Her words would not fail her this time. “You both have to let me go.”

“Fuck that!” Jason growled. Before she even had time to blink, she found herself tossed on the bed. Her hands were held above her head by Donovan while Jason fiercely, unyieldingly took her mouth in a fiery kiss. She returned it with the same fervor, unable to help herself.

April had no time to think, to collect her thoughts, for as soon as Jason released her lips, Donovan took his place. He released the grip he had on her wrists, but instead of pushing him away, she wrapped her hands around his neck and pulled him closer to her. She’d only had a brief taste of him when he came to rescue her from the dungeons, so this felt like their first real kiss. She found her resolve quickly fading because she sensed their pain at the thought of her leaving them. She knew she didn’t have the strength to walk away from them on her own, and it seemed that neither of her stubborn men was willing to let her go.

When Donovan ended their kiss, he looked deeply into her eyes and cradled her face. Like that first night with Jason, she felt as if he could see the inside of her soul. He wasn’t repulsed by her or angry. Instead, he looked at her with longing and adoration.

“That’s not the way this works, my angel. Whatever happens to one of us, happens to all three.”

“And we would chase you to the ends of the Earth, April,” Jason added. “So don’t even think about running from us.”

“Let us show you how much we want you, angel.” Donovan nuzzled her ear as he spoke.

“Yes,” she whispered, closing her eyes, prompting Donovan to continue with his assault on her ear. He licked her inner shell then proceeded to torment her ear with soft bites and kisses, eliciting a few successive moans from her. He moved onto to delivering the same attention to her neck while Jason’s warm hands caressed her bare legs.

Donovan cupped her face. She opened up her eyes for a brief moment and saw him hovering over her. His lips quirked in an adorable sly smile before he pressed them to hers. He kissed her softly at first, their tongues barely touching, but when she hugged him to her tightly, he deepened the kiss, moaning into her mouth. His hand cupped her breast over the thick sweatshirt, but she felt it searing into her skin as if she had been wearing nothing at all.

She felt Jason shift in between her legs. His hands roamed up her thighs, and under her shirt, stopping at her hips. He placed his forehead on her lower stomach. “Do you have any idea how difficult it has been lying here, not touching you, knowing you had nothing underneath this sweatshirt?” His voice, muffled by said shirt, sounded strained.

Donovan hummed in agreement and moved on to kissing her neck. She nudged him a little so that he could give her room to sit up. She then lifted her hands in the air. It didn’t take long for them to catch her meaning. Donovan peeled off the sweatshirt from her body, slowly revealing every naked inch of her to their gaze.

ABOUT SARAH MARSH

Sarah Marsh was born in British Columbia where she still lives. She has only recently began her writing career, finding it the perfect outlet for taking the edge off a nine to five office job. She’s been a science fiction and romance junkie for years and when her imagination started to take the characters she’d read about even further in their adventures, she decided to try writing something of her own.

Sarah’s also a former pastry chef and spends a lot of time cooking and baking for friends and family as well as painting and knitting. Her biggest weaknesses are animals of any kind … she even loves the ones that wake you up at four in the morning because they can almost see the bottom of their food dish.

When it comes to life in general, she’s a big believer that laughter is the best medicine and that there’s no such thing as too much love, which is why she’s such a sucker for a happy ending.

You know what they say … you can’t run away from your fate. But what if your fate tries to run away from you? If you’re a wolf … you chase fate instead.

th31QSW7Z6Book Reviewed by Gabrielle Sally (author,reviewer) [ Review Posted: Jul 24, 2016 ]

CHASING FAETE is Book 1 in the Beyond the Veil series by Elena Kincaid, Maia Dylan and Sarah Marsh, and it begins spectacularly well. From the inner thoughts of Erica, the fae running from the Fae King, to wolf shifter brothers, Leo and Ben, her mates, who stumble upon her scent during a routine patrol, this was a great read from start to finish. I will admit that seeing three authors on this story made me pause. In my reading experience, I’ve found that when there’s more than one author, it’s often easy to discern the different writers within the story, which I find a distraction. But in this case, if all three actively contributed content, the blending is relatively seamless and I loved much of the imagery. There are so many good aspects to this story, from Erica’s healer skills as fae (and royalty) to the brothers’ need to protect someone who clearly doesn’t need much protecting, the interactions between all the characters significantly upped my entertainment level as I was led on an emotional ride that kept me turning those pages. Unfortunately, war is brewing and with all good stories, evil must perish so that our heroes/heroine may have their happily ever after. But do they? What lines are willingly crossed in order to save so many? When the story ends, there are secrets still hidden. AND…since this IS an erotic romance, I will add that the sensual scenes between Erica, Leo and Ben are fantastic and I will admit to reading this story twice before writing this review. This has all the ingredients for a great story: fae, shifters, chemistry, well-drawn up characters, drama, grief, war, and scintillating scenes. I am looking forward to reading other stories in this series as they come out. *Note: This story does contain mild BDSM elements, MFM interactions, warm loving embraces, hot sex scenes, and magick. – See more at: http://erotic.theromancereviews.com/viewbooksreview.php?bookid=22238#sthash.ZyYrmCVN.dpuf

Erica’s demons had finally caught up with her.  After being on the run from her parents’ murderer for years, somehow her luck at evading capture had run out.  The False King’s right hand man had her trapped …or so he thought! Poised to fight him alone, she is shocked when two wolf shifters come to her rescue in a dark ally. She doesn’t quite know what to make of them … but that could just be the blood loss talking.

Leo and Ben couldn’t have been more surprised to stumble onto the scent of their mate as they were on a routine patrol. They follow their noses and barely find her in time, wounded and battling with a group of armed Fae. Little do they know, that life is about to get a whole lot more complicated when it comes to mating their little pixie.

Erica can’t deny the bond she feels with both Ben and Leo. Will the need to avenge her parents’ death and the good of the entire Fae realm cost her the loves she’s waited so long to find? Or will new alliances and old friends come together in time to save them all?

What would you risk to find your happy ending? Would you give the one thing you feared the most if the reward was more than you’d ever hoped for?

th31QSW7Z6Book Reviewed by Gabrielle Sally (author,reviewer) [ Review Posted: May 16, 2016 ]

SURRENDER by Sarah Marsh is a science fiction romance that will leave you wishing for more. When we meet Sally Owens, she’s just waking up from what she thinks is a “hangover to end all hangovers”. As the story begins, she’s replaying the events of the night before in her head. Except that she can’t remember parts of the night and oh yea, she isn’t on earth anymore. Sally and her best friend, Evie, were kidnapped by an intergalactic slave trader, but they were rescued before anything bad could happen. The bad news is that they can’t go home again. The good news is that there are delicious looking men who are more than happy to fill their lives with pleasure. When Sally is given the option to choose her future career, she chooses the Courtesan Guild and her training begins under the helpful tutelage of Arkenon, the guild master. This story was grand fun and I thoroughly enjoyed Sally’s struggles as she learned to let go, trust others and be honest with herself. And the way Arkenon goes about teaching her will leave you breathless for more. Lovers of sci fi erotica will enjoy this heady blending of the two genres into a well-told story that will have you wishing for more.

Story Excerpt:

Her eyes opening shocked him. Lucian stood rapidly and darted to the doorway, hoping his speed had stopped her from seeing him. He sped into the living area and headed to the front door. Amy’s voice ground him to a halt before he reached it.

“What the hell are you doing inside my apartment?” she asked angrily.

Lucian turned. How had she gotten to the entrance hall so quickly? His speed was unmatched, and there was no way she could have gotten out of bed and walked there as quickly as he’d moved. Lucian saw the anger in her expression. He winced.

“I’m sorry. I….”

“Don’t. Just don’t. First you try and kill me. Then you all but drag me from the club. What am I? Some kind of obsession for you? What next? Strangle me while I sleep. Get out!”

“Amy. Please. I don’t want to hurt you. I came here to help protect you,” Lucian said, hoping more than anything their confrontation hadn’t woken her friend.

“You broke into my apartment. For all I know, you could be some kind of serial killer. Get out before I call the police,” Amy demanded.

“Amy. Please don’t be afraid… I,” Lucian said, taking a step closer to her.

Amy step backward. Her gazed bored straight into him, and if it were laced with poison, he’d be dead where he stood.

“Afraid. I’m not afraid. I’m damn well livid. How do you know my name? Why are you following me?” Amy asked.

Lucian glanced down at her hands. They were clasped tight enough for her knuckles to glare white. It was another visual sign of her anger toward him. “My name is Lucian Dark. I didn’t mean to break in, but you need to come with me. The males who were at the club want to take you. I want to help keep you safe,” he explained quickly.

He watched Amy’s reaction closely. Her defiant stance was unmoving, and she was good at guarding her emotions.

“I don’t care who you are. You broke into my apartment, so ‘didn’t mean to’ isn’t quite the truth, is it? I want you to leave me alone. I’m not going anywhere with you, and I don’t need anyone to keep me safe. I asked you to leave,” Amy said, more calmly.

“You don’t understand…,” Lucian began.

“No. You don’t understand. I don’t need anyone’s help. You appeared to deal with those males effectively. Go do whatever it is you do and leave me the hell alone,” she said.

Lucian watched the female take a step backward. He frowned. “You know who I am, don’t you?”

“I know what you are. For all I know you could be working with them. You best leave,” Amy said.

“I’m not going anywhere. I have nothing to do with those males. Do you know who they are?” Lucian asked, taking a step forward.

“No.”

Lucian sensed Amy knew exactly who the males at the club were. She had no intention of revealing anything. She was still obviously angry, but at least her tone had calmed. Maybe she would allow him to speak to her. Maybe, just maybe, he had a chance at convincing her to go with them.

Before he could answer, Lucian’s control broke. He reached forward and pressed his body against her. Her skin felt smooth and delicious against his, and his lust for her soared through him. Her full, rounded breasts contained in her swimsuit pressed against his chest muscles, and it caused a frenzy of desire to run through his veins. He took her head in one of his hands and pressed his lips against hers. If it wasn’t for the water cooling his skin, he would have caught fire at the sensation of her mouth opening up to him. She didn’t falter, but took him willingly. Her sweet taste was delicious as he explored her mouth with his tongue, and her reaction to him was just as passionate. He took every desire of his mate straight to his heart.

Her arms around his body pulled him closer. He felt her legs wrap around his waist, and his dick throbbed to be inside her. He knew she’d be able to feel his hard shaft against her clit, and he circled his hips, losing himself in the growing desire to shed her of the suit that was stopping him from feeling more of her body. She was responding to his need as desperately as he was, and he deepened the kiss, groaning deeply in his chest. She was possessing every emotion inside him. With her, he could feel again, and it was both scary and exhilarating. He couldn’t stop even if the whole place caught fire. She felt right in his arms, and he knew he’d never be able to let her go. He just hoped she felt the same way.

Q&A:

  1. Please tell us about your latest book.

This book delves into the life of Lucian, one of the lords of the Mist. He meets Amy Jackson and becomes obsessed with who she really is. She’d hiding something, and doesn’t want to put others at risk but he knows he has to do everything he can to protect her. Will he reject her when he finds out the truth?

This book was so much fun to write. Amy’s character is defiant and strong willed, and it was so enjoyable writing the scenes of her and Lucian’s confrontations. They are battling between desire for each other, and at the same time keeping themselves from getting involved. I found balancing their love for each other, and their desire to deny their future, a challenge.

2. How do we find out about you and your books?

3. Why did you decide to write romance novels?

I’ve read paranormal romance books for years after being introduced to them by my twin sister. I especially love Laurann Dohner books and decided one day to put my ideas down on paper. Once I started to write, it was like a buzz that I couldn’t stop until I had finished my first book. Now I’ve just submitted my 6th and my love of writing is still as strong.

4. How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?

Writing paranormal genre allows you to put in some personal life experiences but it can also allow you the freedom to be creative. I love being able to create personalities for characters that are fun and interesting but also dark and mysterious.

5. Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?

I don’t have a schedule as such, I just write whenever I get the chance. In between family and work, I usually get to write at the end of the day when it’s peaceful.

6. What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?

I love to relax by reading my Kindle where I have lots of my favourite author’s books. I usually start reading and keep going until I’ve read the whole series.

7. Do you feel humour is important in women’s fiction and why?

I feel it’s important for readers to relate to the characters in the book and humour is a good way to create enjoyment. If a character is cheeky or sarcastic, in a nice way, what better way to engage a reader and make them want to know more about the characters.

8. What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?

I don’t find them too difficult to write. Sometimes I need to edit to ensure I don’t make them too long or repetitive. I always try to make them different so the readers are not reading the same words or sentences over and over. I make them emotionally descriptive to help the readers sense the passion.

9. What kind of research do you do?

I research a lot on settings and characters visually to help my writing to be more descriptive. I find this helps the readers to really visualize as they read.

10. Do you have a favorite author? Favorite book?

My favourite author is Laurann Dohner and my favourite book is Braun. She is an amazing author and is able to create emotionally intense scenes of possession but can also make you laugh. Her characters are interesting and powerful which makes her stories fun to read.

11. Have you always wanted to be a writer?

I have always enjoyed reading but never thought of myself as a writer. Now I have written 6 novels, I can never imagine not wanting to ever stop writing now.

12. How many books have you written, and how many of those have been published?

I’ve written 6 books and they have been published straight away. I’m hoping the following books in the series will also have the privilege of being published.

13. Have you experienced writer’s block—> If so, how did you work through it?

I have hit writer’s block in the middle of the books. I left them for a few days and returned to them. I re-read a few chapters and find things that didn’t sound right and this helped me move forward with the stories.

14. What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?

Completing a book full of fun, love and intense desire is exciting. Being able to give readers enjoyment from reading a great story is immensely rewarding.

15. Are there any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?

Don’t ever give up. Sometimes it’s difficult but believe in the ideas you have. If you love it, others will too. Join readers groups, it’s a great way to interact and get ideas and support.

Excerpt:

“My hands are trembling; my mouth dry, the knot in my stomach is so tight it threatens to encase my whole body. I’ve been sitting, frozen in a state of shock for God knows how long. I’m gripping onto the knife so hard its blade is cutting through the top layer of my skin, causing a thin trickle of blood to trail down my fingers.

What the fuck just happened?

My little sister lies dead at my feet, murdered by the kitchen knife in my hands. Killed by me. I can’t even begin to get my head around what I’ve done, she is—was only eight years old. And such a petite, pretty thing. Blonde hair, bright turquoise eyes, chubby cheeks, a sweet smile, the whole works. I glance down at her frail, lifeless body. Bile rises up into my throat as my pulse races at an uncontrollable pace.

What a stupid bitch.

How could she have been so God damn incredibly thick? I told her over and over again that if she went outside, she would die. That there was no other outcome. She’d sit there all meek, tears dripping from the corners of her eyes, listening to my instructions, nodding shyly, appearing to soak up my every word.

But no, she just had to go and do it, didn’t she? She had to find out for herself. Well, she’s learnt her lesson the hard way now. When I caught her, out in the garden, just standing there, I knew. I knew right then in that moment that we were over. That she was as dead as our parents. She turned around and dared to look me in the eyes, with an expression so defiant it actually took me back for a second. Then she stormed past me into the house, refusing to talk to me for days, however much I screamed and yelled. She knew I was frightened, she knew I was worried about losing her, and she just left me to stew. Even crying only resulted in silence, and I never cry. She’s always known how to rile me up, that girl, but I’ve always loved her nonetheless. She’s my sister, which only makes me more pissed off with the bad turn this took.

She eventually stumbled out of her room, pale, almost grey, and barely breathing. My blood ran cold as I automatically gripped onto the knife next to me, just waiting. Her eyes flicked up at me, the familiar colourless irises filled my heart with an overwhelming sadness, which I immediately forced myself to replace with a burning rage. How dare she let this happen to her? I spent all that effort trying to look after her, teaching her the best way to survive and for what? For her to take both our lives into her own hands? For her to allow her stupid decisions to affect my life as well as her own?

When this new version of my sister lunged for me, I sprang into action almost instantly. It didn’t matter to me what or who she’d been, I’ve seen enough zombie films and read enough books to know that her past had gone, her personality was no more. That all she wanted to do now was to eat every scrap of flesh off my bones. Sentiment has no place in the apocalypse, everyone knows that.

I can still see the knife piercing her flesh. The blood…so much blood everywhere. I really had to force the blade to make it go into her brain deep enough to stop her. It isn’t as easy as I’d assumed it would be. When an aggressive cannibal is close to scraping its teeth against your arm and you’re pushing the weapon with all your might, just trying to break through the barrier, there’s a second when you think you have no chance of making it. I was lucky really; I managed to keep my cool to get the job done. That’s the first rule of survival, don’t lose your head. Well, that and always be prepared.”
